About STEAM 9

This is a spring semester elective for 9th-graders interested in a STEAM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). The first phase of this program involves students exploring three required hands-on projects. During the second phase, students choose their own research topic. At the end of the semester, students present their posters to the school community. Students maintain a digital portfolio of their project throughout the semester.

Required Projects

Project 1: Mushrooms

In this project, students use a DIY kit to grow mushrooms and shape them into their preferred molds. Combining biology and visual arts, past projects have included making a mushroom star and building music mushrooms.

Project 2: Electronics

In this project, students are introduced to Arduino as a powerful toolkit to make practical products such as LED circuits, light switches, and other hardware through a hands-on engineering process.
