For the past month, the STEAM teams continued their amazing work on their projects. We are also celebrating an important milestone — our website has reached more than 500 views! So, without further ado, let’s take a look at what all the teams have been working on this month. From the EWS STEAM Team, we wish every EWS student a great Jestermester, and for everyone else: we’re sending cheer to your day with some STEAM 🙂

Discovering the Titanic
- What’s been going well: making regular, productive updates to the game, such as making a pop-up main menu once the player joins; gaining familiarity with Roblox Studio’s keyboard shortcuts make this process more efficient.
- What’s been challenging: coding in Lua often does not give the expected output, which requires a lot of trial and error; it is also very time-consuming
- Next step: focusing the team on one goal at a time; at this moment, it is working on the pop-up menu and closely inspecting every line of code to figure out what each command does. We will also spend more time out of class to work on our game.

Growing Flowers with a Hydroponic System
- What’s been going well: We have flowers in our soil plants. We’ve been researching the photo period of cosmos flowers and why our soil flowers bloomed and editing our time-lapse videos.
- What’s been challenging: Our hydroponics have not been flowering, and they have been growing into the light, causing them to burn.
- Next steps: We will research the photo period to try to encourage our flowers to bloom, and we have tied back our plants to avoid burning.

Archives Podcast
- What’s been going well: We’ve found a good setup for recording our episodes; we found a quiet place and borrowed a microphone from the Help Desk. We’ve finished recording our second episode about the letters between Emma Willard and Ms. Pawling; we’ve also started working on our script for our other 2 episodes.
- What’s been challenging: Our episodes aren’t scripted, so sometimes it’s hard to improvise our wording on the spot.
- Next steps: We will record our episode over 2 days and then edit it to get the best parts.

EWS STEAM
- What’s been going well: We added songs and videos to our subpages. We also fixed the CSS formatting for our home page.
- What’s been challenging: It takes a lot of time to go from making a Google form to making an update post to making a newsletter.
- Next steps: We will try to work more efficiently in class and consider changing our newsletter to once every two months, which will also give each team more time to work on their project.
